Health crisis. What if this virus was the bearer of good news?

The few words that Olivier Véran said at the very end of his speech on March 25 may have gone unnoticed: (from memory) “Even if we make good barrier gestures, the virus, which is very small, sometimes manages to sneak in: we are never responsible when we are sick, we are always a victim. ” These words touched me, because I had the Covid myself, and I was very afraid for the people with whom I had had a coffee just before knowing that I was in contact. I regretted having offered it to them: you cannot drink while wearing your mask! And I also know that the person who thought they had infected me was very worried about me. In addition to the symptoms of the disease itself, there is this feeling of guilt towards those who have been infected, which does not help. Thank you Mr. Véran, and thank you to all the health services and medicare staff who do a wonderful job.

What if this virus that does not want to leave us was the bearer of good news? Thanks to Covid-19, would man regain his fragility? The one who makes you aware of your finitude, to finally feel alive? Who has not found, on the occasion of the loss of a loved one, the deep desire to give back a place in their life to what makes them happy? Spend time with those you love, know how to express your affection, get involved in a project that is close to your heart …
What good news, as we approach Holy Week, that what is stronger than death is not the vaccine, but the abundant life given by God.
That it is not science that will save us, but the incredible power of love of which the love of God makes us capable.
Isn’t it our place as Christians to bring this good news to our fellow citizens that from fragility is born the power of life? (…)

Another deficiency at the moment, the absence of tactile exchanges with friends, neighbors, even the person in charge of the household to whom we liked to say hello by hugging him. It is so many kisses and warm contacts which are lacking in these children restrained in their spontaneity.

“The rules applying to places of worship remain unchanged” announced the Prime Minister. But are these rules really applied? It is permissible to wonder.
I had the opportunity to observe in a parish that on the occasion of a funeral (and not just once, exceptionally!), No checks, no reminders, no measures were taken: gauge blithely exceeded (more than double the number of present compared to the tonnage), no distance from the chairs, all rows occupied, frost inaccessible… (…)
In these conditions, how can we be surprised that some people put in parallel to denounce the opening of places of worship and the closing of cultural places?

Claude Casagrande

More than a year after the start of this crisis, it is clear that most of the decisions taken were motivated by the desire to avoid saturation of hospital services, and in particular of intensive care units. Their occupancy rate is therefore one of the three major criteria used to justify these decisions. In addition, no truly effective treatment has apparently been discovered, and all hopes of curbing the pandemic rest on vaccination. (…) All the players concerned by this subject underline the limiting nature of the lack of trained nursing staff (nursing assistants, intensive care nurses, anesthetists and intensive care specialists). It takes four to five years to train a young resident in intensive care. But he can already render eminent services from his first year of specialization.

It is therefore now, and this is urgent, that we must decide on the number of beds to be created, their distribution, the training of additional doctors and caregivers, their funding, if we want to have a chance. to avoid reconfiguring all or part of the country at regular intervals in the years to come. It is the responsibility of the Minister of Health.
