As of: 03/20/2021 6:28 a.m.

Hamburg’s schools should remain open – despite the rising incidences withdrawn openings of shops and other facilities. Senate and school authorities are now relying on quick self-tests – from Monday in all schools.

You can now give the green light for self-testing, said school senator Ties Rabe (SPD). And referred to tests at ten pilot schools – including six elementary schools. Schoolchildren got along well with it everywhere, according to the authority.

One test a week

During the self-tests, a short cotton swab must be inserted into the front of the nose. A test liquid is then used to check whether there is an infection. Starting next week, around 120,000 pupils are to test themselves once in each school under supervision – the entire school staff even three times a week.

Ten positive cases

At the moment, thanks to the alternating instruction, a maximum of half classes are included in classroom instruction. In the first 20,000 rapid tests this week, there were ten positive cases among school workers. They had to leave their schools immediately.
