Government instructs regions to close movie theaters and nightclubs

The Russian government instructed the regions to close nightclubs, entertainment centers and cinemas, as well as ban smoking hookahs in restaurants and cafes. This decision was made following a meeting of the operational headquarters to prevent the importation and spread of new coronavirus infection in Russia.

The Ministry of Culture has previously recommended that cinemas suspend operation for visitors from March 23. Earlier, similar restrictions were imposed on museums, theaters, philharmonic societies, circuses and other cultural institutions.

Regions are also advised to prioritize the distribution of protective masks to medical professionals and others who come into contact with a new type of coronavirus infected. In several regions of Russia previously recorded a shortage of medical masks and their sharp rise in price. The government also instructed the regions, together with Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Health and the Social Insurance Fund, to consider the possibility of using the treatment and rehabilitation centers and sanatoriums subordinate to them for isolation and treatment of patients with COVID-19.

By March 24, 495 cases of coronavirus were detected in Russia. The disease was detected in 14 regions of the country. Moscow (290 cases), Moscow region (35 cases) and St. Petersburg (21 cases) are leading in the number of cases of coronavirus among Russian regions.
