Goats return to Riverside Park

Upper West Side residents released a score of goats Wednesday to cut through the undergrowth of Riverside Park.

They did so as part of the Riverside Conservation organization’s forest restoration initiative.

“Spain has the Encierro (the Bullfight). Manhattan has the Corrida de las Goras,” area councilman Mark Levine jokingly wrote on social media.

“They returned to @RiversideParkNY, they will spend the summer eating invasive plants to avoid the need for chemical herbicides. Come see the goats in action on 120th St!” Urges Levine.

Five of the goats will live in the park during the summer, eating hard-to-reach poison ivy, Japanese knotty wood, and other unwanted plants.

The public can vote online for their favorite goat to be named “the greatest of all time.”

The five in dispute are: Buckles, Mallemar, Chalupa, Skittles and Ms. Bo Peep.

The election will be made using the classified election ballot on the website of Riverside Conservancy

“Our ranked voting system will run smoothly and the GOAT will be crowned without any confusion or controversy by the end of the summer,” said Dan Garodnick, President and CEO of the Riverside Park Conservancy, in mocking reference to the voting system used. in the just primary for mayor.

“We encourage New Yorkers to come meet the ‘Fabulous Five’ in person and stay tuned to our social media channels as the goats roll out their platforms,” Garodnick added.

Area Assemblyman Danny O’Donnel highlighted how the return of the goats means that you can roam and play freely in the park.

“Like the goats, we’ve all been locked up for the past year, but I’m excited that we can now roam freely and spend the summer playing and picnicking in the park!” O’Donnel wrote on social media.
