Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane defended his player, Fede Valverde, after the decisive foul of the latter against Atlético Madrid.
Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup At the expense of his neighbor Atlético in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after winning 4-1 on penalties.
Zidane commented on the performance of Valverde in his remarks after the match: “I am very happy about Valverde, he has done a great job like the others. He would like to share his award with the rest of his colleagues.”
The 115th minute saw a red card for Valverde after a violation committed by Alvaro Morata, who was alone with Real Madrid.
Zidane commented on this violation: “Verde did what he had to do, it is a rude but necessary violation at this moment. In the end what matters is that he apologized to Murata because they know each other well.”
Zidane won 9 out of 9 final games he played as Real Madrid coach, so how did he do that?
Zizou answers: “I don’t know, this is the nature of the club, we always want to win. We have to be patient, we felt some discomfort between the two games because we did not know how to score, and our opponent was strong. We have to always believe until the end.”
And on penalty kicks and whether the team trained them or not: “Yes, of course, in football you never expect what will happen. We felt happy because the title was never easy.”
He concluded: “We must continue to work, and now we must continue to work with pleasure and happiness. We cannot relax, the league, the Champions League and the Cup remain before us, it is a very long way.”
Real Madrid won its No. 11 title in the supercar, while Atletico’s credit was frozen at only two titles.
Real Madrid took revenge for the loss to Athletic in 2014.
Zinedine Zidane also defeated Diego Simeone in a new penalty shootout, after the Champions League final 2016.
