Barcelona Leaning Towards Not Activating Marcus Rashford Purchase Option
Barcelona are increasingly unlikely to make Marcus Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United permanent,with reports in Spain suggesting the 26-year-old is “closer to leaving than staying.” While initially expressing satisfaction with Rashford’s contributions, key figures at the club have growing reservations about the €30 million purchase option.
Barcelona sporting director Deco recently stated the club is “happy” with Rashford, acknowledging his positive impact since joining on loan. However, Deco also emphasized that “now is not the time to make any decisions regarding Rashford’s future.” Rashford has failed to score or assist in his last three appearances since the November international break.
Club president Joan Laporta and Deco are reportedly “not convinced that this investment is worthwhile,” considering Rashford’s age and high salary. A final decision is not expected until May.
Barcelona are reportedly considering alternatives, including Koln‘s Said El Mala, Lyon‘s Malick Fofana, and RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, should they opt against signing Rashford permanently. Rashford is expected to be available for a permanent transfer in 2026, with Barcelona also possibly interested at that time.
