FDP top candidate Hüskens before state elections in Saxony-Anhalt: “Need different political accents”

It is not easy outside of the state parliament. Lydia Hüskens knows that only too well. Ten years have now passed since your party, the FDP, flew out of the state parliament. The FDP was politically quiet in public – until the preparations for the state elections began last year. “We worked politically and on content the entire time,” says Hüskens, the top candidate. “It’s just incredibly difficult to get through it from outside the state parliament.”

This is not the only reason the FDP wants to return to the state parliament on June 6th. As an extra-parliamentary opposition, it naturally disagrees with what recently happened politically in Saxony-Anhalt. The “constant quarrel” in the state government, the lack of development, the money being spent without any effect – Lydia Hüskens’ list of criticisms is long. You and your party want to do better, preferably as part of a new state government. “I’m someone who likes to design,” says the 56-year-old.

FDP focuses on education, business and rural areas

In her main job, Hüskens is currently the managing director of the student union in Halle. Nevertheless, she unwinds her political goals off the cuff: “We need different accents,” she says. “We need a policy that focuses on rural areas.” The FDP also focuses on the issues of education and, of course, the economy. The Liberals want to “do everything” so that companies can start up again, says Hüskens. Her goal: a better exchange between administration and companies, her way there: unbureaucratisation.
