Leading Czech economists also have a heavy head from the unpredictable development of fuel prices. They can’t agree on how deep we still have to reach into our pockets either. But one thing is certain, according to most of them, it will become more expensive, and significantly. We asked economists how much they think fuel would cost before Christmas.
According to economist Štěpán Křeček, fuel prices can be expected to rise due to developments in the oil market. “The price of petrol could climb to the level of 37 crowns per liter, the price of diesel up to 35 crowns per liter,” he told TV Nova.
Economist Petr Studnička is of the opinion that the price could be even higher. “I am afraid that they can reach the limit of 40 crowns per liter. The prices of petrol and diesel may be comparable and attack the limit of 40 crowns,” said Studnička.
Economist Jan Maček agrees with him. “To put it simply: the willingness of people to buy at a certain price, in 2012 we bought fuel for 40 crowns, now it can be the same,” he said.
The development of the price of fuels was compared to 2012 by another expert addressed. “Depending on the development of oil and koruna prices, everything points to the fact that it will be an extra koruna, it will be the highest prices in the Czech Republic since 2012,” predicts Petr Sklář.
According to Jiří Schwarz, however, it will be different. “I believe that fuel prices at Christmas will not differ from the current ones, on the contrary, they will be cheaper,” he said.

Economist Lukáš Kovanda, on the other hand, thinks that in the worst case, people could pay up to 40 crowns for one liter of petrol in the winter. “It would be 38 crowns per liter of diesel. And that is if the energy market does not calm down, and we know that the situation is getting worse day by day,” Kovanda stated.
Jakub Jedlinský does not want to estimate the situation. “It is possible that fuel prices will be a crown more expensive, but they can also be five crowns cheaper, this cannot be predicted,” he said.
The survey was closed by Tomáš Matuška. “The global economic crisis is raging, which, if it continues, we can expect another jump in fuel in the Czech Republic, at least 4 crowns for both petrol and diesel,” said the economist.
