Donald Trump to George Floyd: Outrageous Statements on the Labor Market

US president Donald Trump has caused outrage by testifying to George Floyd killed in a brutal police operation. When the new unemployment figures were introduced, Trump said that Floyd would certainly be pleased about the good development in the US labor market. “Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying, ‘A great thing is happening to our country,'” said the president after the unemployment rate surprisingly dropped amid the corona crisis. “This is a great day for him, this is a great day for everyone.”

The US unemployment rate was in the midst of the corona virus crisis in May surprisingly dropped to 13.3 percent. While this is still a very high figure, it is 14.7 percent lower than in April.

The opposition US Democrats have strongly condemned Trump’s statements. The designated Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, wrote on Twitter, Floyd’s last words “I can’t breathe” have echoed in the US and around the world. “The fact that the President is trying to put other words in his mouth is truly contemptible.”

Democratic senator Kamala Harris also sharply criticized Trump: Trump should “not put Floyd’s name in his mouth” before he can say the phrase “Black Lives Matter”, Harris wrote on Twitter. “Black life counts” is the motto of protests against police violence against African Americans – and ever-present after Floyd’s death.

Floyd’s death in a police operation in Minneapolis has led to nationwide protests against racism and police violence. A white cop had pushed the African American’s knee on the back of his neck for almost nine minutes, although Floyd repeatedly complained with the words “I can’t breathe” that he couldn’t breathe.

Trump called on the police across the country to treat all citizens equally, regardless of skin color. “That’s what our constitution requires, and that’s what our country is about,” Trump said at his appearance in the White House. Every American must be treated equally and fairly when encountering security forces.

Trump praises his efforts for the blacks

Trump said the police operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday last week, which led to Floyd’s death, was unacceptable. “We have all seen what happened in the past week. We cannot allow that.”

Trump claimed: “Nobody has ever done what President Trump did for the black community.” Demonstrators, on the other hand, accuse him of being jointly responsible for racism and police violence in the country with his rhetoric.
