Diocese in Peru helps families in the COVID-19 pandemic with food

Recently, the Diocese of Chosica, in Peru, indicated that thanks to the solidarity of the faithful, it supported 40 common pots that continue to feed the families most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in 2020, until now, the Diocese of Chosica, located in Peru, has been leading the solidarity campaign “Sponsor a family: supporting common pots.”

Under the motto “Faith acts for charity”, this initiative seeks to support the activity of families in the poorest eastern districts of Lima, who organized themselves in common neighborhood pots to ensure that no one lacks food in their community in the midst of the pandemic crisis.

The campaign consists of sponsoring a family, through the solidarity donation of 50 soles (about 13 dollars), which are invested for the elaboration of a kit of basic necessities, which benefits vulnerable families in the districts of Ate , Chaclacayo, Lurigancho (Chosica), Santa Anita, San Juan de Lurigancho, Santa Eulalia and Huarochirí.

The Episcopal Conference of Peru he pointed In February of this year, the campaign managed to donate 311 thousand kilos of food to that date, benefiting more than 100 thousand families.

On September 10, the Diocese indicated on its Facebook page that, thanks to the campaign, on August 31 they donated “sacks of rice, various food, drinks and white onion to 40 common pots and 2 care centers for children at risk. from the districts of San Juan de Lurigancho, Chosica, Chaclacayo, Huaycán and Ñaña ”.

In addition, they especially thanked the solidarity of “the ‘Friends of Germany’ and the Peru Food Bank”; the logistical support of “the young people of the Major Seminary of“ San Martín de Porres ”; and the diocesan team that coordinates the campaign.
