“Dawn March”: The premiere of the film about the Russian people’s farewell to freedom will take place in Riga

“As I remember now, I finished the film at the beginning of May and in the evening of the same day I was already on the bus to Vilnius, then to Riga. Only then could I breathe out, because otherwise there was a sense of tragedy everywhere. It was in the air. Now feeling like a refugee is much more adequate than sitting with your hands folded in your lap,” says director Roman Kachanov.

The action of the film takes place in Moscow region in the nineties of the 20th century. Capitalism is developing in the former USSR. The main character earns money by filming commercials and organizing concerts. He undertakes to organize a competition for young musicians. The winner has already been chosen. Unknown musicians representing various musical genres and directions gather to perform. Artists are united by the desire to express themselves. Chance introduces its own corrections to the course plan, and the event takes an unexpected turn – the winner is unknown until the last number of the competition.

The original soundtrack of this film included a significant number of songs and musical compositions created specifically for the film and not previously performed (MS Senechka, RSAK, Zhenya Lyubich, Gara Kachanova and others). However, the film is not only about the competition of musicians back in 1997. This film is about the sense of ease and freedom of that time. This film is a farewell to freedom and hope for something good in Russian society.
