COVID-19: Chile will apply a fourth dose of the vaccine from February 15

The health authorities of Chile confirmed that, as of February 15, they will begin to administer a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to “selected groups”, which include older adults, health personnel and people with comorbidity.

“We have calculated that, after February 15, we will begin with the fourth dose, with selected groups, as we did at the beginning of the vaccination,” said the Minister of Health of Chile, Enrique Paris, in statements to the station Danube.

In this way, the South American country would join Israel, whose authorities indicated on Tuesday that would launch a vaccination campaign to inoculate a fourth dose in order to cope with the advancement of the new omicron variant.

Chilean health authorities have confirmed 981 new positive cases this Wednesday, in such a way that the total number of infected is close to 1.8 million.

Similarly, another six deaths have been added, so the total number of deaths stands at 38,900 since the start of the pandemic.

Opening of land borders

Last Monday, the Chilean government announced the reopening of 10 land borders with Argentina Y Peru, closed for almost two years due to the pandemic, but under strict requirements for visitors.

The land crossings will be rehabilitated in two stages: Wednesday begins with Futaleufú, Huemules and Paso Integración Austral, in the south of Chile and bordering with Argentina.

On January 4, meanwhile, the Chacalluta points will open in the northern limit with Peru, the Agua Negra Pass, Los Libertadores, Pino Hachado, Cardenal Samoré and Dorotea with Argentina.

“Just as today we have the crossing enabled at the airports of Iquique, Antofagasta, Metropolitan Region, Punta Arenas and cruise ships are arriving, now it is the turn to enable the land border crossings,” explained the Undersecretary of Tourism, José Luis Uriarte, during the report on the situation of the pandemic in Chile.

Foreigners entering Chile across these borders they will have to homologate their complete vaccination process, access a sworn statement, have health insurance and, when they arrive, they will undergo a PCR test, explained Uriarte.
