Like Samsung in the meantime Korean media has confirmed that the entire production was recently discontinued in a factory of the group specializing in premium smartphones in the city of Gumi in South Korea. The background to this is the fact that an employee working there was found to be infected with the new corona virus, now also known as Covid-19, and has since been confirmed.
The affected employee works in the company’s “Wireless Division” and worked, among other things, in the Gumi plant. There he was reportedly active, among other things, in smartphone production. In the meantime usual examination of all employees at the beginning of their shift, the person was examined in detail on February 22 for symptoms of the virus, whereby the suspicion of a Covid 19 infection was confirmed.

Samsung then sent a text message to all employees at the Gumi plant to stay away for the time being. In the meantime, the responsible emergency teams of the group in Gumi are on duty to thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the plant. Production is to be stopped until this work is completed.
Samsung is currently aiming to resume mass production of high-end smartphones in Gumi on Monday, February 24, 2020. However, the area of the plant where the employee infected with the new corona virus was active should not go back into operation until one day later.
Samsung also instructed employees at the Gumi plant to stay at home as far as possible on weekends and not to go to large crowds. In addition, employees should wear respirators on the way to the factory and at the workplace, if possible.
Samsung has meanwhile relocated a large part of its production to Vietnam and has some devices built in India, but the company still operates the plant in Gumi in South Korea, where above all the high-priced devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the new Galaxy Z Flip off the assembly line.
