But Marquard – who is said to have published instinct today – recognizes more in it and founded the youth magazine “Pop” with 20 years and a pumped 2,000 francs. With the magazine, Marquard moves a lot in Switzerland, for him it is the start of his publishing empire. He founds women’s magazines such as “Cosmopolitan”, “Joy” and “Mädchen”. In the mid-1990s, Marquard had an annual turnover of CHF 200 million with over 30 titles. A pop fan becomes a media millionaire.

Marquard raves about his villas, which have names like Bella Vista, sits in Rolls-Royce, shows up on his yacht “Azzurra II”. «Why should I hide what I have? It’s my life, ”replies Marquard when accused of boasting. The “balance sheet” lists him with an estimated net worth of up to CHF 400 million among the 300 richest Swiss. And yet Marquard knows that success and luxury are not everything. His most valuable possession, Marquard says, is the love of his wife Raquel and his children.

Jürg Marquard is not someone who rests
Marquard is an old 68er. In his living room in Herrliberg ZH there is a picture of the young Marquard and the legend Jimi Hendrix, the father sometimes accused him of being a communist. Marquard himself says that his former self could hardly do anything with today’s Marquard – vice versa. But he always emphasizes that he works hard and not only makes money, but also loses. Marquard will recover from his illness in the next few weeks. Therefore, the 74-year-old will not participate in the second season of the show “The Lion’s Den”.
