Comment: Corona crisis hits children particularly hard | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Hamburg

Children and adolescents particularly suffer from Corona. That is clear to everyone: Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), Peter Tschentscher (SPD) and School Senator Ties Rabe (SPD). Nevertheless, it is now first of all for all pupils and daycare children: stay at home. A comment by Anette van Koeverden.

Anette von Koeverden comments on the renewed emergency care at daycare centers and schools.

What kind of unrealistic idea is that? Parents look after the small children at home, help with homeschooling and do their job in the home office on the side. That cannot be achieved.

Homeschooling: technical requirements better

From the first lockdown, leading politicians, such as Hamburg’s Senator for Social Affairs Melanie Leonhard (SPD) and School Senator Ties Rabe, concluded that children should not stay at home. To be fair, it has to be said that Rabe pushed ahead with the expansion of WLAN and bought tens of thousands of laptops for schoolchildren.

Notabitur?

At least Leonhard does not want to go to emergency care entirely, but to extended emergency care. This is different in other federal states. Overall, no minister seems to know exactly what is right and the regulations are like a patchwork quilt. In Saxony all graduating classes are allowed to go to schools, in Bavaria this applies from February 1st. Then Baden-Württemberg opens daycare centers and primary schools. Comparable degrees are therefore a thing of the past and the stigma of the notabitur remains.

A lot is being done for companies and the economy. Families obviously have a less vocal lobby. Ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD) said “Families and fuss” over 20 years ago. I thought we are on there.

Social consequences

Because the consequences are obvious: a generation of students left behind, psychological problems, an increase in domestic violence and isolation. Injustice in education is growing, parents are overwhelmed. What should the future of our country look like when young people are poorly educated, little children receive little support and grow up without playing together?

More tests in schools

In my opinion, one approach would be to test more in schools: teachers, students. Then you could keep the alternating lessons. The Hamburg police, for example, take this route and remain able to work. That should also apply to schools.
