Cologne: 600 euros fine for insulting two state security officers

36-year-old Omar D., who wanted to join the Islamist terrorist militia Als-Shabaab in Somalia years ago, has to pay a fine of 600 euros for insulting state security officials. In his presence on Wednesday, his lawyer Mutlu Günal withdrew his objection to the corresponding penalty order in the district court.

In July 2016, Omar D., a German with Somali roots, was sentenced to two years suspended prison sentence by the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court for attempting to join a foreign terrorist organization. The attempt had failed because the militias thought he was a spy; they put him in a prison where they mistreated and tortured him. With the help of advocates, he was released. He got to Kenya, was arrested and flown to Germany.

Kölner does not adhere to the probation requirements

He and five other returnees who had been active members of Al-Shabaab had to answer before the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court. They were sentenced to between three and a half and five years in prison. Because in the case of Omar D. he had not tried to take part in the armed struggle, he got away with a suspended sentence.

One of the probation conditions was that he had to report to the state security service once a week to report on himself and his everyday life. The meetings took place at the Cologne police headquarters in Kalk – until Omar D. stayed away from them on his own initiative. This resulted in the revocation of parole. Since October 2019 he has been serving the two-year prison sentence in the Ossendorf prison. The incidents, for which he has now been sentenced by a penalty warrant, happened in August 2019. In the police headquarters, Omar D. insulted two officers as “pissers” and one of them as “Volldepp” and “crank”.

In 2008 Omar D., then 24 years old, made a name for himself. In the early morning of September 26th, he and the 23-year-old Abdirazak B., who also belonged to the Bonn Islamist scene, were arrested in a ready-to-go plane at Cologne-Bonn airport because they were strongly suspected of having committed themselves in Uganda on Holy War ”. Because the suspicion could not be maintained, they were released from custody. In 2015, Abdirazak B. killed 18 people in a suicide attack in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
