Georgi Svilenski hinted at a change of prime minister in case Prime Minister Kiril Petkov decides to change Bulgaria’s position on Northern Macedonia’s EU membership.

“If the prime minister decides to do something under his own responsibility, it is clear what the outcome is. He will simply not be prime minister again,” said the head of the BSP’s PG.

On the sidelines of parliament, Svilenski denied allegations that he was pressuring to speed up the negotiation process.

“Our position is consistent. The Republic of Northern Macedonia can continue the process of joining the EU after fulfilling the declaration of the 44th National Assembly and the conditions already set. This is a red line for us, there is no way we can cross it. This is a red line for all Bulgarian citizens “, he stressed.

According to Svilenski, the society is united on the topic, and over 80% of Bulgarian citizens support the position of the BSP. According to him, their decision is shared by the coalition government, and approval was received by a large part of the opposition.

Svilenski stressed that the majority in the National Assembly supports this line and there is no way for Prime Minister Kiril Petkov to cross it.
