Belarus withdraws from readmission agreement with EU

Belarus has approved a bill to suspend the readmission agreement with the European Union. About it informs Belarusian service of Radio Liberty on Monday, October 4.

The document was adopted by the House of Representatives in the first reading, and then this decision was confirmed by the Council of the Republic.

The bill was submitted to parliament by the formal head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on September 8. According to him, Belarus is doing this “in response to the unfriendly actions that the EU and member states have resorted to in Belarus.”

Note that the agreement was signed in January 2020 and determined the mechanism for the transfer, reception and return of persons who violated the conditions of entry or stay and subject to deportation.
