Orban: Antivaxers will choose between the vaccine and death – World

Opponents of vaccination will eventually have to choose between death and setting a dose, said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. At the end of the week, he said the country was “stuck to the neck in the fourth wave” and that neither this nor a possible fifth wave would have existed if everyone had been vaccinated.

“Everyone is responsible for themselves, but that’s not all, because every unvaccinated person is a danger to themselves and others,” Orban added. He reminded that all other measures slow down the development of the pandemic, but do not help to overcome it. Revaccination is also justified, as 4-6 months after the second dose the protective effect begins to decrease, the prime minister explained.

On Monday, for the first time, Hungary allowed people to be vaccinated without prior appointment, and queues formed in front of Budapest’s main hospitals, Reuters reported. Data for the days from Friday to Sunday, announced today, show 27,209 new infected and 392 dead. With a population of 10 million people, the country has 33,172 deaths, and about 5.8 million people have been vaccinated. About 80-90% of those admitted to intensive care units are unvaccinated.

Last week, the government introduced the mandatory wearing of masks indoors and made it mandatory to vaccinate health workers.
