Behind-the-Scenes at the Oscars: A Glimpse of Unseen Moments and Celebrity Interactions

Offscreen Moments at the 2024 Oscars

A Glance Behind the Scenes: Unseen Moments from the 2024 Oscars

THE OSCARS START AT… 7ISH?

During the 2024 Oscars, the glitz and glamour on-screen is just a hint of the excitement happening offscreen. Among the stars, directors, and producers in attendance, a glimpse into the less visible side of the event reveals a story of delayed starts and last-minute arrivals.

As the show commenced, there was a slight delay, and not everyone managed to make it to their seats on time. Notably, Martin Scorsese, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling were among the last to be seated at approximately 7:06 pm EDT. However, Carey Mulligan was unable to find her seat in time and had to stand aside during Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue and the announcement of the supporting actress prize. Fortunately, she had her husband, Marcus Mumford, by her side to keep her company.

3 MINUTES TO CHAT

During the first commercial break, a flurry of activity ensued as people rushed out of their seats to find their friends. Among them, long-time friends Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence linked up, exchanging laughter and animated gestures while their husbands observed amusedly.

Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig eagerly made her way to her fellow actresses, Robbie and America Ferrera, to congratulate them and share in their joy after Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the supporting actress prize. Finally, Mulligan and Mumford made their way to their seats, catching up with the unfolding events.

EMMA STONE STEPS OUT AT THE WRONG TIME

Amidst the excitement, award-winning actress Emma Stone found herself in an unusual situation. As she enjoyed a glass of champagne in the lobby bar, the film “Poor Things” won the highly coveted award for best production design. Stone’s enthusiasm was visible as she erupted in excitement, jumping up and down and fixated on the gripping acceptance speech. To her surprise, she noticed Florence Pugh nearby and engaged in an animated conversation, discussing Pugh’s remarkable “sprinkled dress.”

Unexpectedly, Pugh burst into laughter upon glimpsing a nearly naked John Cena on the monitor, noting the uncanny resemblance between Cena and the iconic golden Oscar statuette. Stone’s excitement continued as “Poor Things” received another triumph, this time for costume design. Once again, she couldn’t contain her enthusiasm, jumping and screaming in absolute elation. Frustrated by missing some of the memorable moments inside the main event, Stone exclaimed, “I’m missing all of them! It’s not OK – it’s bad. I’m going home.”

GRETA GERWIG AND THE COSTUME DESIGNERS

Outside the main auditorium, Greta Gerwig found herself approached by a devoted fan with an appreciation for a specific aspect of the Oscars – Ann Roth’s cameo as ‘Barbie.’ This fan turned out to be Eduardo Castro, an academy board member from the costume designers branch. Expressing his utmost admiration, Castro conveyed to Gerwig how much Roth’s appearance meant to him.

Ann Roth, a remarkable Oscar winner for films including “The English Patient” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” played a charming woman on a bench in “Barbie” – a role that even Jimmy Kimmel imitated during his opening. Castro, who considers Roth a mentor, revealed that the legendary costume designer initially expressed doubts but asked for a martini to calm her nerves. Gerwig chuckled, acknowledging Roth’s enjoyment of the classic cocktail.

As the conversation transpired, Gerwig’s husband, Noah Baumbach, joined the conversation, culminating in a visit to the bar, albeit without the martini order.

KENERGY IN THE LOBBY (AND ON STAGE)

Prior to Ryan Gosling transforming the Oscars into a spontaneous and entertaining concert, the Kens, appropriately dressed in cowboy hats, could be found gathering energy in the lobby. From stretches to jogging in place, they were actively preparing for the big moment.

As the performance unfolded, the Dolby Theatre erupted into an atmosphere reminiscent of a Taylor Swift concert. The entire room stood up in unison and broke into joyful, spontaneous dance routines. Notably, Greta Gerwig, an ardent fan, had a personal encounter with a Ken, who appeared inches away from her face.

During a commercial break, Mark Ronson joined Gerwig, Robbie, and a host of admirers, adding to the post-performance lively energy. The room buzzed with excitement, and Ronson, fully embracing the atmosphere, returned to his seat proudly donning a pink Ken shirt for the rest of the show.

AN OPPENHOMIE MOMENT

Even after the cameras stopped rolling, the joy continued as the Oppenhomies remained on stage, celebrating their many victories. Robert Downey Jr., with a triumphant expression, raised his trophy, visibly elated. Among the last to leave the stage were Emily Blunt and Jimmy Kimmel, engrossed in a casual conversation as they exited.

WHEN THE SHOW ENDS, THE EVENING IS JUST STARTING

As the Hollywood stars made their way to the prestigious Governors Ball, the atmosphere was brimming with excitement. Cord Jefferson, ecstatic and clutching his Oscar, walked through the lobby, radiating pure joy. Kate McKinnon shared a heartfelt moment with Marlee Matlin, while Steven Spielberg discreetly made his way out, masked.

Despite Greta Gerwig and her film “Barbie” falling short on awards, her infectious spirit remained unscathed, leaving her with a lasting impression of the legendary evening centered around “I’m Just Ken.”
