The fact that one victory was enough for the Bremen team to move into the relegation was due to Union Berlin’s committed performance in the parallel game against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The team of coach Urs Fischer fended off the first two good opportunities for the offensive Fortuna, in the 26th minute the hosts struck – as so often this season according to a standard. First Joshua Mees tried a volley after a corner from Christopher Trimmel, then the blocked shot brought the Anthony Ujah over the line.
It was the ex-Bremen player who sent his team-mate Christian Gentner (54.) on the trip after a poor header from Kaan Ayhan, who increased to 2: 0. Fortuna tried everything again, Union successfully countered and even scored the third goal from Suleiman Abdullahi (90th).
