MADRID, KOMPAS.com – Spanish porn star Nacho Vidal has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a man died in a ceremony involving frog venom.
Vidal, whose real name is Ignacio Jordà González, was arrested in May on suspicion of murder.
According to a statement from the Spanish law enforcement agency, Guardia Civil, the investigation into the case took 11 months.
Investigations show the victim, a photographer, died after participating in a “spiritual or mystical” ceremony.
Ritual it took place in July 2019 in the city of Enguera, near Valencia, in eastern Spain, according to a statement from the court in Xàtiva, a city in the province of Valencia.
The ritual, which took place at Vidal’s house, involved inhaling poisonous fumes from the burning scales of the Bufo alvarius frog, according to the statement.

Vidal’s lawyer, Daniel Salvador of the firm Vosseler Lawyers, declined to comment on the case when contacted by CNN Friday (19/3/2021).
Salvador told CNN in June that the death was a “tragic accident” and that his client was not responsible.
Vidal can appeal the decision. The prosecutor’s office now has 10 days from Wednesday (17/3/2021), when he was charged, to request the opening of an oral hearing or to end the legal process.
The court rejected the trials of Vidal’s cousin and others under investigation. They are judged to have no criminal responsibility, because they do not have “control over the situation” and are not involved in directing the ceremony.
None of the names of the other suspects were made public. The police also did not mention the name of the man who died.
Also known as the Colorado River frog or Sonoran Desert frog, these amphibians release a poison called 5-MeO-DMT. It is known to have hallucinogenic effects, according to the Addiction Center website.
It is about four to six times stronger than DMT or dimethyltryptamine. The effect of its use can “stimulate the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that causes feelings of happiness,” according to the Addiction Center.

According to a court statement, Vidal was the “designer” of the activity ritual the. He also has experience taking the drug. It is even suspected of supplying the drug and failing to properly control the amount inhaled by the victim.
If found guilty, Vidal could face up to four years in prison, according to article 142 of Spain’s penal code.
47 years old, Vidal has appeared in at least 10,000 scenes, in a porn career spanning 26 years, according to his website.
She describes herself as “one of the most important exponents” of the porn industry and is the owner of a sex toy shop.
