Emergency services are already estimating the total number of damaged houses at “hundreds”. The downpour will continue for several more days.

Heavy rains on the east coast of Australia began the worst flooding in 50 years. It is reported by Interfax-Ukraine Sunday, March 21st.

New South Wales Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklyan said the situation was worse than initially expected.

“Yesterday we hoped that such an event occurs only once every 20 years, and now it looks like an event that occurs once every 50 years,” Berezhiklyan said at a briefing.

People in parts of the city of Sydney were advised to leave their homes in the middle of the night, as the fast moving streams of water caused massive destruction. About 1,000 people requested assistance in evacuating, about 4,000 more, according to Beredzhiklyan, may be forced to leave their homes. Emergency services are already estimating the total number of damaged houses at “hundreds”.

Several major roads across the state are closed, and many schools have canceled classes for Monday.

Meteorologists said the downpour will continue for several more days. Emergency brigades have recorded nearly 6,000 calls for help since the rain began on Thursday, including nearly 700 direct calls for rescue.

Extreme weather conditions have impacted the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine throughout New South Wales. Plans have been disrupted to deliver the first doses to nearly 6 million people over the next weeks.

Previously in Hawaii flooding destroyed houses and bridges… The dam was also damaged. About 1,300 houses were left without electricity.
