Atlanta rappers Young Thug and Gunna pay bail for 30 inmates

Famous American rappers Young Thug and Gunna brought smiles to a few families, paying bonds for thirty people, as local media WSB-TV reported.

The thirty inmates were in the Fulton County Jail in the state of Georgia. And the latter drags a sad reputation for its overpopulation which ranks it among the worst prisons in the state. The local American channel shed light on the overwhelmed Fulton County jail. While it can accommodate a maximum capacity of 2,500 people, it currently has 400 extra prisoners.

The situation is therefore unbearable for the latter who find themselves sleeping on the floor of the common areas. Especially since most men and women are detained for minor offenses that they cannot pay for lack of sufficient means.

Young Thug and Gunna, who are originally from Atlanta, also know prison life since they have both been in trouble with the American justice system. If this time is behind them, the two rappers have not forgotten it. This is also one of the reasons why they decided to reach out to the thirty or so people who were locked up for small offenses.

Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, explained that the idea came to them “in the morning when they woke up”. They decided “to go to the prison with the lawyers and the surety companies in order to get as many people out as possible”. The 29-year-old rapper took the opportunity to denounce the excessive sums set against certain prisoners.

Happy and proud, the rappers attended the reunion between the families and the former prisoners who were able to return to their homes the same evening. Gunna, the young rapper of 27 years, even confided “to feel a crazy good” and thinks to have found his new mission.

While the two hip-hop stars haven’t revealed exactly how much money they spent, they do point out that it’s not a one-time act. Indeed, they intend to continue this momentum, and they hope to see other artists emulate them.
