Still waiting to be able to finally open its doors to the public, the zoo-refuge La Tanière in Nogent-le-Phaye (Eure-et-Loir) near Chartres continues its transformation, its development, arranging reception areas for its proteges.
The den, it is the work of a lifetime for Francine and Patrick Violas who, after having succeeded in the field of mobile telephony, sold their business and, since then, have given themselves completely to the animal cause by creating this exceptional “Christmas Ark”. But in recent days, the health crisis persisting, they launched an appeal for help, seriously wondering about the future of their project.

These residents all have a story.
Beyond all these proteges often saved from a disastrous fate, the couple want each visitor to remember the name of these animals because, behind, hides an often symbolic and revealing history of our society.
► Eleventh focus this week with the bears this time.
The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about ” lair “, It is obviously the bears. And for good reason, the plantigrades are among the first wild residents to have taken up residence at the refuge.
A beautiful cohabitation
Naturally rather solitary in captivity, the first representatives to arrive after a life of roaming and performing in circuses, were brought up together and therefore coexist naturally without clashes in their living space where everyone has their preferences.
So it is not uncommon to find Jack, Tonito and Child playing in the water, climbing on their swing or the platforms present in their enclosure, or even taking a nap in one of the concrete nozzles where they particularly like to curl up.
But the best part of the day for them is undoubtedly the cuddling session with their “daddy bear” Paolo, who has raised them all with a bottle and to whom they are very attached.
In the enclosure next door are Scoundrel and Cinnamon, two young bears aged 4 years born on the same day at La Tanière and yet the fruit of two litters and two different births which were synchronized.
A bear alone in a park
If Canaille is more of a quiet nature and loves to take baths, Cannelle is more curious and intrepid and particularly likes to climb the different structures of her enclosure to observe her neighbors and the activity of the surrounding refuge.
Finally last September, the park team welcomed a new resident, Lugo, a young 5-year-old plantigrade who previously resided in a Pyrenean park dedicated to bears where he was the only resident.
Passed initially by the quarantine building which conditions any entry to La Tanière, he has since joined a large enclosure where he becomes familiar with this new environment and the proximity with fellow creatures.
All these little people can obviously count on the imagination and creativity of the animal team, which works every day to prepare many food and play enrichments for them by playing on their greed and their very developed sense of smell. Finally in a few weeks they will be able to move in a new grandiose enclosure entirely fitted out for their well-being.
