Police spokesman Robert Scholten said on Sunday afternoon that the police were on site with a large contingent. Around 60 people and five service dogs trained in the search for explosives searched for a possible suspicious item in the station itself and in the surrounding area.

The Deutsche Bahn had tweeted around 3:30 p.m. that long-distance trains would not stop in Bonn Hbf, Remagen and Andernach. The replacement station is Bonn-Beuel. According to the railway, affected passengers should expect delays of around 30 minutes. The closure of Bonn Central Station also affected the SWB light rail lines, which were interrupted in the station region. Bus lines around Bonn Central Station have been rerouted.
