During a set of operative search measures, on February 26 of this year, employees of the Division of Combating Extremely Serious and Serious Crimes of the Criminal Police Bureau of the VP ZRP detained a man born in 1976 who had been punished several times before in Riga. He was remanded in custody during the investigation.
After obtaining a sufficient set of evidence and taking all necessary criminal investigation activities, on 19 June this year a decision was made to transfer the criminal proceedings to the Zemgale District Prosecutor’s Office for prosecution under Section 176 (4) of the Criminal Law on robbery. Such an offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to fifteen years, with or without confiscation of property, and by probation for a term of up to three years.
