Indicators on the Covid-19 epidemic continue to deteriorate, raising fears of a new outbreak of cases.

“The trend is not good”. The deputy director general of the Regional Health Agency launched a warning on Sunday, August 9 on the increase in cases of Sars Cov-2 contamination in France.

“We are at the start of an epidemic rebound”, warned Nicolas Péju on the air of Franceinfo, Sunday August 9. “We have a trend which is not good and which must even now require, in the heart of August, a strong mobilization to strengthen all preventive measures,” he said.

On Friday, the Directorate General of Health announced an unprecedented increase in Covid-19 cases since May in France, with 2,288 people diagnosed positive in 24 hours.

“There really needs to be a collective awareness that the trend is not good. We are at the start of an epidemic rebound. If we don’t want it to turn into the start of the second wave, this awareness is imperative to strengthen all preventive measures and reverse this trend in the days and weeks to come, “warns Nicolas Péju. On the political side, the president of the Île-de-France region Valérie Pécresse relayed this warning, while the wearing a mask will become compulsory in certain frequented areas of Paris from Monday August 10.

In all, more than 9,330 new cases were recorded in one week (including 1,604 Thursday and 1,695 Wednesday), while the threshold of 1,000 contaminations per day had been crossed again at the end of July.
