Adams Administration Considering Curfew on Migrant Shelters in NYC

Reports indicate that the Adams administration would be considering imposing a curfew on migrant shelters throughout the city.

This comes after some neighbors complained that migrants go door to door asking for food, clothing and money.

During a closed-door briefing on the immigration crisis with local lawmakers on Thursday, the mayor’s director of Asylum Seeker Operations said the curfew was an option they were considering.

There is already a curfew on homeless shelters in the city, and Queens Republican Councilwoman Joann Ariola says the same concept should apply to migrant shelters.

A pro-immigrant group responded to the issue by pointing out that Mayor Adams “is focusing on the wrong issue,” as said by Murad Awawdeh, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition.

“We should investigate why they do not receive the help they need in the centers,” Awawdeh added in a message on social networks.
