20 minutes – TL transported 122 million customers in 2019

The number of travelers transported on the Lausanne public transport network (TL) in 2019 increased by 2.5% 122 million compared to 2018 (+3 million). The bulk of these new users is concentrated on the M1 and M2 metros, neighborhood lines and regional passenger traffic, TL said on Tuesday.

Attendance at M2, Switzerland’s first automatic metro, continues to increase. This line between Ouchy-Olympiques and Croisettes welcomed 1.8 million additional customers in 2019 (+ 4%), specify the TL in a press release. The M1 also continues to grow with an increase of nearly 670,000 travelers (+ 4.8%).

New line between Renens and Chauderon

In 2019, a new bus line between Renens and Lausanne-Chauderon was put into service. The objective was to strengthen line 17 (Georgette – Croix-Page), which is the most frequent in the network with nearly 7 million passengers in 2018. This operation made it possible to increase the comfort and efficiency of travel for customers from the West of Lausanne.

Nearby mobility is also meeting increasing success. In 2019, the six minibus lines in the urban network transported nearly one million passengers, 21% more than the previous year.

Over 1,500 employees

The frequentation of regional road lines also follows the general growth trend and reached nearly 2.2 million travelers in 2019 (+ 1.8%). To meet travelers’ expectations, the two-stage bus fleet has been renewed: thirteen new vehicles were put into service in 2019.

The first positive results of the new bus line 24, which serves the Vidy relaxation and leisure area by the lake, are promising, according to TL. The attendance over the first six months of operation is higher than expected with 330,000 travelers.

The company itself crossed a milestone in 2019: it now has more than 1,500 employees (1,563), an increase of 45% over the last ten years. The majority of staff (51%) are dedicated to driving buses, subways and trains.
