Since 2017, the 45-year-old Spaniard has played Sergio Marquina, known as Le Professeur, in La Casa de Papel, whose season 4 landed on April 3 on Netflix. Alvaro Morte answered questions of 20 minutes from Madrid, where he lives with his family.
How are your confinement days going?
I have never been home so long, which makes me and my family happy. I was filming far from Madrid, and I barely had time to return to Spain before we could no longer leave home.
Are you playing teacher with your twins?
Absolutely! I do the teacher with my children too, but a different from that of the series (laughs). They are 5 years old and I take care of school or other activities with them several hours a day.
Do you look like Sergio?
I am very different from him: I have a lot of friends, I love to laugh and I am very sociable. Otherwise, like him, I am workaholic. I cannot fall asleep until I am sure I have done everything that was in my planning for a day. When I prepare a shoot, I can spend hours thinking about the smallest details of my character.
Isn’t it difficult to find other roles given the huge success of La Casa de Papel?
The hardest part is not finding a character, but that he does not look like the Professor. I just finished The Pier, where I play a man who cheats on his wife and where we see the story from the point of view of his wife. This series was imagined by the creator of La Casa de Papel.
