As a project developer, the GBI group of companies is building the premium economy hotel with 241 rooms right next to the administration building of the Middle Franconia AOK directorate, which was completed at the end of last year. Complete completion of the area is planned for 2022.

“At this important location, this building project is an important contribution to the successful and well-thought-out development of the inner city,” said Nuremberg’s planning and construction consultant Daniel F. Ulrich in his topping-out speech. The public passage between AOK and Premier Inn plays an important role. As a continuation of Kraussstrasse, this not only connects Sandstrasse in the south with Frauentorgraben in the north, but also offers sections of green space. Ulrich: “The resulting green connection is not only convenient and time-saving for pedestrians, it also offers an attractive opportunity to linger there.”

Right from the start, it was important for the city to do justice to its special history with the redesign of the property. This is where the Art Nouveau building of the “Industry and Culture Association” once stood, in which the unspeakable “Nuremberg Laws” on racial discrimination were passed in 1935. A memorial site with an information stele is therefore integrated into the passage. In order to achieve the best possible solution, a Europe-wide negotiation process was carried out for the entire ensemble of buildings there. The project planning was implemented by the Hamburg architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp).

The hotel brand Premier Inn belongs to the British Whitbread Group, which currently operates 30 hotels in Germany. “Since the very first Premier Inn in Germany was completed together with GBI in 2016 in Frankfurt an der Messe, both companies have been a well-rehearsed team,” emphasizes Chris-Norman, Sauer Acquisitions Director Germany: “That is why the project in Nuremberg was also completed in a very short time from the signing of the lease to the start of construction and all planning is adapted to the location. ” In the meantime, the brand has secured a total of 73 locations in more than 30 cities and with over 13,000 rooms, including the hotels that are already in operation. Six of the hotels are joint project developments with GBI, in addition to Nuremberg and Frankfurt there are also houses in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Duisburg and Leipzig.

It is no coincidence that Premier Inn and GBI are currently cooperating in Nuremberg. Both companies have a special relationship with the city. The GBI group of companies has already built several hotels in Nuremberg in the past: NH, Motel One, Hampton by Hilton and Holiday Inn Express, as well as the Park Inn as a refurbishment – all houses in the area around the main train station. “Thanks to our company location in nearby Erlangen, we know the Nuremberg market very well and know which overnight concept is best,” emphasizes Reiner Nittka, spokesman for the board of GBI Holding AG: “Despite the corona pandemic, it remains as economical as it is in terms of tourism interesting location in focus for accommodation offers. ”

For Premier Inn in particular, Nuremberg has been a focus of attention since the expansion into Germany began.
