You must install on your new phone the Samsung SmartSwitch application version 3.7.22.1 or higher; install WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or higher on your old device while WhatsApp Android version 2.21.16.20 or higher is downloaded to your new device.
This is how it works. Turn on your Samsung phone and when prompted to do so, connect it using the aforementioned USB-C to Lightning cable to your iPhone. Follow the Samsung Smart Switch experience, and when prompted, scan the QR code displayed on the new device using the iPhone camera. You then tap on start on iPhone and wait for the process to complete.
When you proceed with setting up your new Samsung Galaxy phone, launch the WhatsApp app using the same phone number that you used on the old phone. When prompted to do so, tap “Import” and let the process complete. Once your new phone is activated, all your old WhatsApp chats will be moved from iOS to Android.
To reiterate, WhatsApp says, “If you switch from an iPhone to a Samsung Android device, you can transfer your account information, profile photos, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. You cannot transfer call history or display names. .”
Your old phone will continue to use your old WhatsApp data unless you decide to wipe the device or delete the WhatsApp app.
The data transferred doesn’t go to cloud storage (although you may have sent it there separately via Chat Backup). And WhatsApp can’t see the data being migrated. While private messages can be transferred from iOS to compatible Samsung-branded Android phones, peer-to-peer payment messages cannot. Your WhatsApp call history also cannot be transferred from iPhone to Samsung handset.
