Bremen – Werder Bremen will play in the Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg again without their two supposedly best offensive players Milot Rashica and Leonardo Bittencourt.

Rashica got a knock on the ankle in the catch-up game against Eintracht Frankfurt (0-3) and is therefore not even in the squad in the northern duel on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / DAZN and Amazon Prime). Bittencourt is not yet back at 100 percent after his hip bruise, but at least he is sitting on the bench.

In the attack, coach Florian Kohfeldt relies on Wolfsburg on Yuya Osako and Joshua Sargent. On the left side, the Swede Ludwig Augustinsson is back in the starting XI for the first time since the season continued. Swiss international Admir Mehmedi will replace yellow-blocked Renato Steffen.

Both teams set a sign against racism by kneeling before the game. In doing so, they responded to global protests against racism and police violence after the death of African American George Floyd after a police operation in the United States. The gesture had established football pro Colin Kaepernick as a form of protest in 2016. “Separated in the colors, united in the matter,” wrote VfL on Twitter.

The Werder Bremen team had previously joined the global protests against racism while warming up. During the warm-up, all players wore shirts with the words “Clear edge against racism”.
