Genoa and Valencia close the agreement for Vicente Mompó to lead the party in the province

White smoke. After two days of intense negotiations between the national leadership of the PP and the party leadership in the Valencian Community, the agreement has been reached so that Vicente Mompó, Mayor of Gavarda, be the next president of the provincial structure in Valencia. In parallel, Carlos Mazon, president of the Alicante Provincial Council, will be the leader in that province. Genoa will convene tomorrow the provincial congresses of Valencia and Alicante on the party’s board of directors. Both should take place before August.

The resistance of the national deputy Belén Hoyo it was the last stumbling block to close the agreement in the province of Valencia. His opposition prevented an agreement promoted by the PP secretary general, Teodoro García Egea, with the approval of the party’s regional president, Isabel Bonig. “The important thing now is the union of the party,” said sources close to the regional president. In addition to Belén Hoyo, also the former Valencian president, Francisco Camps, he opposed, but his role and influence is at this point minimal in the party. Behind this resistance was also the former president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Cesar Sánchez.

Isabel Bonig has staged the agreement on Twitter with a photo in which they appear alongside her, among others, V
Icente Mompó, Belén Hoyo and María José Catalá, who is guaranteed to rise up as the leader of the PP in the city of Valencia when the local congresses are called. The work of Teodoro García Egea has been intense, and has had the collaboration of Isabel Bonig, Carlos Mazón and Vicente Betoret, among others.

In the case of Valencia, since the arrest and prosecution for alleged corruption of the former provincial president, Alfonso RusThe manager of the party is a manager. That is, almost ten years without holding a congress in this province. For a long time the militancy asked for it, but the inability to find a consensus candidate among the different families has been delaying the solution that the PP’s national leadership has finally imposed.

In the case of Alicante, things have been easier. The Spanish PP leadership wants to reinforce the role of the current president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Carlos Mazon, at the head of the Valencian PP, consolidating it first as party president in that province. Mazón has the direct support of Pablo Casado and has managed to become strong in Alicante from the watchtower of the Provincial Government.

From Genoa, it is pointed out that it is early to elucidate solutions at the regional level: “Isabel Bonig is there, and at the moment that is the reality.” But in the Valencian PP there are not a few who believe that Carlos Mazón can be a natural replacement for the current president and be a future candidate for the Valencian Generalitat.
