We strongly reject allegations that could affect Qatar’s gas relations and supplies to Europe • Al Marsad newspaper

Al-Marsad newspaper – Agencies: Qatar has condemned an investigation by Belgium on suspicion of corruption and a decision by the European Parliament to limit relations with Doha, stressing that this could negatively affect Qatar’s relations and gas supplies to the Europe.

restrictions discriminatory

A Qatari diplomat said: “The decision to impose such discriminatory restrictions limiting dialogue and cooperation with Qatar before the end of the investigation will adversely affect regional and global security cooperation, as well as ongoing talks on the shortage of global energy and security”, according to what was reported by “Agence France Presse” Statement by a diplomat from Qatar.

The statement released by the Qatari diplomat criticized the Belgian authorities, emphasizing the use of “inaccurate” information. According to “AFP”

Rejection accusations

And the statement continued: “We strongly reject allegations linking our government to misconduct. Qatar is not the only party named in the investigation, yet our country has been single-handedly subjected to criticism and attacks.”

“This week we have followed with great caution the selective condemnation of our country,” added the diplomat.

“It is deeply disappointing that the Belgian government did not make an effort to communicate with our government to find out the facts when it learned of the allegations,” he said.

Gas natural

The diplomat underlined the close relationship with Belgium, saying, “Our two countries cooperated during the Corona pandemic and Qatar is a major supplier of liquefied natural gas to Belgium.”

The European Parliament suspended all work on Qatar-related legislation on Thursday, against the backdrop of a possible corruption case, as a result of which the deputy president of the Parliament was arrested, while Doha denied any connection to the case.
