Global retail giant Walmart on Wednesday announced plans to hire 150,000 people ahead of the holiday season to work in its supermarkets, with most of those positions intended to be permanent and full-time.

The group, the largest private employer in the United States with approximately 1.6 million employees, had already announced in early September that it wanted to recruit 20,000 additional people to manage the flow of products in its warehouses and deliveries.
