VIDEO: With a barricade, in Jiquilisco they managed to prevent more people from entering the hostel | News from El Salvador

A barricade, heated spirits and overcrowding and ill-treatment arguments were necessary so that the doctors who run the Jiquilisco shelter gave up on the idea of bringing more people to quarantine, which, in that place, already gathers more than 400 travelers from from different parts of the world.

A group of people, who are serving their quarantine period in the Jiquilisco shelter, placed a barricade at the gate of the compound faced with the possibility that more shelters arrived at the place. On Saturday morning the 14th, the site protected more than 400 people from different countries of the world.

Many had lunch and some said a rosary when it was announced that a bus with people from Guatemala would arrive at the hostel. Tired by the overcrowding, of which they have complained on several occasions through social networks, some took tables and chairs and raised a small division with the intention of cutting off the passage.

Although, not all participated in the protest, if there was concern in most of the shelters who, in addition, closed the side gates to prevent entry from another point.

After a few minutes, the spirits heated up when a group of doctors was surrounded by the shelters, who began to question them about the arrival of more people and about the rumors that the quarantine would restart.

The doctor picked up a microphone and repeated something that had been said before: that they were following orders from the presidency. In addition, the doctor assured that the authorities of the shelter are working so that there are not more than 400 people in the compound. He noted that Saturday morning a number of seniors were removed to transfer them to another shelter.

A woman, who spoke as the group’s spokesperson, questioned the group of doctors about something that has troubled those sheltered during the three days of isolation: the certainty of when they will be released from quarantine. Another woman also spoke and pointed out that the process that takes place in that shelter “is not a quarantine,” in addition, she said that for the measure to be carried out, people had to be two meters apart from each other. “Here we are all close,” he added with evident anger.

Both women demanded other measures that are not carried out inefficiently, such as food that, for a good part of the three days of isolation, has been received through donations and not from official authorities or the Salvadoran government.

“We will not receive more people”

While the argument between the sheltered and the doctors continued, another woman, part of the team of administrators of the shelter in Jiquilisco, asked to speak to announce that she had had a conversation with the Vice Minister of Health, who assured her that no more people would enter the compound .

The announcement was celebrated by the shelters with applause and shouts. “We will coordinate with the Ministry of Health so that these people can enter other shelters as appropriate,” he said

At the end of the crossing of words, a mutual understanding was reached between doctors and shelters. Both parties committed to guarantee coexistence to make the stay of the remaining 27 days of quarantine easier.
