Vaccination in Colombia: what you should know about the third dose | Government | Economy

The Ministry of Health enabled the third dose of covid-19 vaccine for those over 18 years of age in the country and although vaccination was already authorized for certain population groups, such as those over 70 years of age or patients with immunodeficiencies, or even in that age division, those over 50 years of age (who should come for the booster four months after the application of the second dose), there are new rules.

With the new authorization for those over 18 years of age, it must be taken into account that 6 months must elapse from the completion of the initial vaccination schedule. In addition, the population groups stipulated in Decree 630 of 2021 are retaken.

In the stage 2, For its part, the green light is given to all talent in health, traditional doctors, ancestral experts, pilots and national crew who transfer patients and those prioritized, according to the decree. They will be able to attend the vaccination from this November 24th.

In the case of the population group of the stage 3, Its reinforcement process would begin on December 21, 2021. In this segment are: teachers, directors and educational personnel, the military and police forces, the indigenous and maroon guard, people between the ages of 16 and 59 with prioritized comorbidities, agents educators, community mothers and fathers and caregivers identified by the ICBF, human talent caring for the elderly, staff of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the search unit, and migration, the highest health authorities at the municipal, district and departmental levels and human talent at funeral homes, crematoriums or who perform autopsies.

In the case of this group, which included those over 50 years of age, the reinforcement should be at four months.

The group that makes up the fourth stage, that is, citizens over 40 years of age, the reinforcement process would begin on January 18, 2022. From that moment on, it will also be the turn of persons deprived of liberty, institutional caregivers, population at risk of outbreaks due to high occupations such as pilots or flight attendants, custodial and surveillance personnel of persons deprived of liberty, Prosecutor’s Office personnel, Human talent from Ungrd, crew of cargo transport boats, street dwellers, air traffic controllers and aeronautical firefighters, human talent from family police stations and social services for the homeless population.

The group of the stage 5 dIt began on February 16, 2022 and that includes the entire population over 18 years of age.

WHAT VACCINE SHOULD BE GIVEN?

The recommendation of the vaccine advisory committee is to apply booster doses with mRNA platform vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) in those who received two doses (full schedules) of Sinovac or AstraZeneca. This decision – to apply vaccines other than the initial ones – It will be taken by the person voluntarily.

That is to say: populations will be able to access a booster dose with a biological counterpart, when the initial scheme used was inactivated virus, viral vector or mRNA. Or with a biological heterologous, with mRNA platform or viral vector (AstraZeneca), when the initial scheme was mRNA platform vector, viral vector or inactivated virus.
