A students High school in Michigan, United States of America, detonated accidentally Good assemblies that he brought to school in the classroom on Monday (8/3) morning.
Newaygo County Police, Michigan, said the incident injured the student and four of his friends.
Police officials said they received a report from Newaygo High School in western Michigan about an explosion in one of the classrooms at around 8:52 a.m. local time.
Initial investigations showed that the 16-year-old student accidentally detonated a homemade explosive device he was bringing to school.
Police said the explosive device exploded in the classroom, injuring the 16-year-old and four of his classmates who were seated close by.
The principal also reportedly called 911 emergency services immediately. All students were immediately evacuated to the school bus garage before the emergency personnel arrived.
As a result of this incident, all schools in Newaygo were closed until the authorities decided there were no further threats against the students.
Michigan Police spokeswoman Michelle Robinson said the student carrying the explosives appeared to have no evil motive. The student was also said to have no intention of detonating the explosive device.
Robinson said the 16-year-old had been taken to hospital after suffering moderate to severe injuries.
Meanwhile, four other students suffered minor injuries and have also been taken to the hospital by their respective parents.
“Currently, investigations are continuing into what type of explosives were used and their impact,” Robinson was quoted as saying CNN.
Robinson said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Control had also been on the scene to assist with the investigation.
Meanwhile, the authorities also searched a number of houses in Newaygo.
