US National Archives not allowed to repost Trump tweets | NOW

Twitter does not allow the US National Archives to republish tweets from former President Donald Trump. That reports Politico. Trump got off Twitter in January banned, which means that tweets are no longer visible on his page.

National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is a government agency that creates archives of files of historical importance. This also includes tweets from prominent government employees. Likewise, tweets from Trump’s official presidential account (which he did not use himself) have also been archived, as well as messages from his wife Melania Trump.

But an archive of Trump’s tweets is not allowed on Twitter. “Because we have permanently suspended @realDonaldTrump, messages from the account will no longer appear on Twitter,” said a spokesperson for the social media company. “It does not matter how the National Archives wants to present the tweets.”

Twitter’s decision will in all likelihood add fuel to the discussion of tech companies’ power in the public debate. The Republicans in particular have long complained that Silicon Valley companies are mainly silencing conservatives.

A NARA spokesperson said earlier that “the best way is being sought” to preserve the tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account for posterity. The government agency wants to leave it to Twitter whether the messages will also be seen on that social medium.
