Unusual Military Parade from North Korea

Jakarta

North Korea had held a military parade that was not as usual a while ago. The military parade was held in the middle of the night.

As reported by Reuters and AFP, Thursday (9/9), the military parade was not the first but already the third time in the past year. North Korea held a parade to celebrate the communist regime’s national day on Wednesday (8/9).

Usually, North Korean military parades are used to reveal new weapons or military equipment including large ballistic missiles. The parade is usually held to commemorate September 9, which is the founding day of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or North Korea’s national day.

The South Korean news agency (South Korea), Yonhap News Agency said that the latest military parade was held in the capital Pyongyang in the early hours of Thursday (9/9). Meanwhile, North Korea’s monitoring media, NK News, citing sources, reported that the military parade began at midnight Wednesday (8/9).

The NK News report said North Koreans were seen preparing for a military parade near Kim Il-Sung Square, Pyongyang, at midnight. It was reported that Pyongyang’s roads were temporarily closed and no civilian vehicles were seen.

Not only that, the parade was also enlivened with fireworks in downtown Pyongyang on Wednesday (8/9) at midnight and on Thursday (9/9) in the morning at around 01.00 local time, indicating that the event was held in that time period. A number of parties said the celebration of fighter jets crossing the skies of North Korea was also carried out.

“There are signs that North Korea is holding a military parade in Pyongyang after midnight. The (South Korean) military is analyzing the signs,” an unnamed military source was quoted as saying by Yonhap News Agency.

It was not immediately clear what military system the North was displaying in the latest military parade, nor whether their leader, Kim Jong-Un, attended the parade in person.
