Britain braces for the worst-case scenario of the spread of coronavirus

Due to the increase in the number of COVID patients, civil services and enterprises of the country may face disruptions in work in the coming weeks.

The UK government has called on public sector leaders to work out plans of action in case of absence from work of up to 25% of the workforce. This option is seen as the worst-case scenario for the spread of the coronavirus, reports on Monday, January 3. Interfax.

It is noted that this request is due to the development of measures to minimize disruptions in the economy and the work of government agencies as a result of the rapid spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

“Until now, the disruptions caused by Omicron have been controlled in most sectors of the public sector, but sector leaders have been asked to test their worst-case plans – no 10%, 20% and 25% of the workforce,” the government said in a statement.

It notes that businesses and government services may face disruptions in the coming weeks due to an increase in the number of infected and the need to self-isolate for seven days for people who test positive for coronavirus.

The government does not rule out that in such conditions, it may ask volunteers, for example, retired teachers, to return to work.

Recall on New Year’s Eve in the United Kingdom recorded a record number of new cases infections – 189 846, which is much higher than during the previous outbursts.

The week before in Britain for the first time revealed more than 100 thousand new infections per day.
