Two groups of migrants, in an undetermined number, arrived this Sunday aboard boats to two points of the coast of Broward County, north of Miami, and the authorities detained several, local media reported.

The first boat arrived at around 10 a.m. local time on a beach in Fort Lauderdale and the Police were notified by witnesses that some 15 people disembarked.

According to the Local 10 channel, an unknown number of migrants are already in the custody of the US Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP).

About an hour later another boat with migrants landed on the coast of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, in the same area of Broward, and police later detained 9 migrants.

The nationalities of the detainees have not been reported, but the southern Florida coasts are seeing the arrival of mostly Haitians and Cubans, and in greater numbers than last year.

Most are deported to their countries, who go through difficult economic and social situations.

In the sea, the Coast Guard intercepted 293 Cubans in the last two months.

Average monthly interceptions are currently double that of the previous year, according to the US Coast Guard.

In the entire fiscal year that ended on September 30, 838 Cubans were intercepted, according to that source.
