This Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of what was the worst Islamist attack in Germany. An outrage against a Christmas market in Berlin killed thirteen people, one of whom recently died.
The president of the country, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, spoke at the commemoration ceremony of the “enormous fissure” left by that attack and has highlighted the failures of the State in the exercise of its obligations to avoid this type of situation: “We have To admit it: the State has not been able to fulfill its promise of protection, security and freedom, this is its debt, with the victims, the wounded and their families. It has a duty to realize the errors, omissions and problems that contributed to preventing this attack from being prevented. “
The last victim died on October 5 at the age of 49 as a result of seriousinjuries that left him a strong blow to the head, probably when trying to help the wounded. The attacker shot a truck driver to seize the vehicle and charge into the crowd.
