“I was very busy and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but most importantly, they were persistent,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. “I agreed and the rest is history! The popularity of this little episode took off like a rocket and the movie was a big success, especially during Christmas,” said Trump. “People call me every time it’s on TV.”

“If they felt I was forcing something on them, didn’t they want me, why did they put me in, leave me there for over 30 years? Because I was, I’m still great for this movie, that’s why!”

Here’s Trump’s response to Columbus’ 2020 interview with Business Insider, which gained wide attention just this Christmas. “We paid the fee, but he also said ‘you can only use the Plaza if I’m in the movie,'” Columbus said at the time. “That’s why we agreed to put him in the movie.” He added that the presence of then-Plaza owner Trump at the early screening of the film was met with excitement, but that doesn’t change the fact that he “imposed his presence on the film.”

Home Alone is a 1990 US Christmas comedy film starring a then-young boy, Macaulay Culkin, alongside Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Hurd and Kathryn O’Hara. Culkin stars as Kevin McAllister, a boy who protects his suburban Chicago home from burglars after his family accidentally abandons him on a Christmas vacation to Paris. In 1992, the sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” was released, in which Donald Trump had a cameo role.

It received positive reviews, praising the cast, humor and music. The film grossed more than $476 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-grossing comedy feature film until The Hangover 2 (2011), and established Culkin as a child star. Additionally, it is the second highest grossing film of 1990 behind Ghost. It was the most watched film in the US for 12 consecutive weeks and remained in the world’s top 10 until June 1991. The film is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest-grossing film of its genre of all time.
