This will be the new landscape of New York in the Williamsburg neighborhood

The architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) presented the updated masterplan of how the new landscape of New York will look like in the Williamsburg neighborhood, when the project known as “River Ring” is completed, which -located in Brooklyn- seeks to introduce a new riverfront urban model and transform the way New Yorkers interact with water.

The most significant modification to the master plan since its last iteration in 2019 involves the redesign of its two skyscrapers. While the initially planned towers were to rise to a height of 182 meters and almost 200 meters, they will now measure 215 meters and 170 meters. And they will offer a combination of various uses: housing, community spaces, shops and offices.

The developers aim to begin construction of the River Ring in Williamsburg before Mayor Bill de Blasio’s last term ends in late 2021.

The central park aims to restore the ecology facing the river, while the master plan includes just over one hectare of open public space and another hectare of protected access on the water. The plan is anchored by a first-of-its-kind public beach with a storm-resistant edge that will protect more than 500 inland properties from flooding.

The ring connects to the park’s breakwaters that provide protection and form a series of nature trails that extend into the existing concrete blocks.

As the pictures show, it will be a new New York landscape worth visiting.
