MEXICO CITY.
Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, reported tonight that only an extremely high concentration of Covid-19 in the water in a pool could generate contagions to other people who enter the tank.
“Perhaps a concern that could arise, given that the virus is transmitted through the respiratory tract through droplets of saliva, small droplets or aerosols, that depositing that saliva into the pool water, could be that the pool water is a transmission medium; it does not seem to be the case, for many reasons, in the first place the pools are generally chlorinated and the concentration of chlorine is sufficient to eliminate a virus like this one, ”he explained.
“The concentration that would be required of viruses, even if the water were not chlorinated, in order for it to be effective, would have to be extremely high; that is to say, virus particles are dissolved, which can definitely be in the saliva of a sick person or respiratory consections and reach the pool, they dissolve in a large volume of water, “she added.
Therefore, López-Gatell reiterated the recommendation made since the Covid-19 pandemic began; that is, not being in proximity and keeping a healthy aquatic distance.
