NOVENTA – Others deaths in the nursing home on the day the vaccines finally arrived. After having overcome the first wave of Coronavirus unscathed, in the last month the structure in via Roma must mourn numerous victims. During the night between Sunday and Monday, the number of deaths rose from ten to thirteen. Three women aged 84, 94 and 93, respectively, did not make it. The first two were positive for Coronavirus, the third had been negative for a few days, but his physique already debilitated by previous pathologies could not withstand the consequences left by the virus. The three deaths concerned the first floor of the facility where the outbreak occurred from the beginning of December. On the second floor, the leaders of the RSA are succeeding in the difficult task of keeping the virus away.
To date, 79 elderly people are accommodated in the nursing home. A new entry was registered yesterday. It was since the end of November that, due to the emergency, no more new guests were welcomed. In detail, 43 guests live on the second floor and are all negative to Covid-19. Thirty-six others stay on the first floor. They were pretty much all positive until last week. To date, 11 remain positive, while the remaining 25 have become negative. The picture of employees in relation to Coronavirus is more comforting: three social health workers remained positive at home, while the other operators of the structure, after contracting Covid-19, recovered and returned to service. It is fair to remember that the week before Christmas there were more than twenty workers forced into the pits. Nonetheless, the structure has never been in difficulty, relying on a good number of employees.
THE HOPE
If the number of deaths continues to rise, the comforting news is that starting today and for three days, the vaccination. «Today – said the president of the structure Denis Cacciatori – we will start with guests which have absolute priority. The second part of the elderly residents will receive the vaccine tomorrow. Finally, Thursday will be the turn of employees. I’ll get vaccinated too. In this delicate moment it is essential to rely on science and do everything possible to stop infections and above all losses ». Cacciatori, who follows the evolution of the situation in real time with the director Davide Colombo and the board of directors, continued: “Our great strength has been to secure the second floor of the institution in such a way as to guarantee all presents the greatest possible security to prevent new outbreaks. It is not easy to complete this important project, but we will do everything to succeed. My thanks go above all to the employees who, without any hesitation, throw themselves into the trenches every day with objective risks, with the sole aim of bringing relief and health to the elderly. However fragile people, aggravated by previous pathologies, who need a thousand treatments to overcome this terrible pandemic ». In the meantime, in the meantime, telephone contacts between guests and their families continue. It is natural that we are experiencing days of high tension given that Covid-19 does not seem to let down its guard and the risk is there for all to see. Thanks to constant work by the switchboard operators, family members have the opportunity to know in real time the health conditions of their loved ones, they can hear and see them through video calls. All while waiting for normalcy to return as soon as possible.
