NEW YORK – Police reported another attack within the subway from New York City on Saturday; It is at least the third violent assault on an MTA passenger this week.
A man was waiting for a train at the High Street subway station near Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn when someone slashed his face Saturday afternoon.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for injuries from a blade, police said. His condition was not immediately known.
Police said the suspect was wearing a bright blue jacket, jeans and a suitcase. Surveillance footage and a more detailed description of the suspect were not released. Police believe the attack was random.
All crimes documented in the subway were up this year from last year, except grand theft, which has seen a 30% drop this year, according to NYPD crime statistics.
“The city needs to do a lot more to ensure that people with mental illness receive the services they need,” MTA spokesman Andrei Berman said Saturday. “As we continue to do the work of relocating millions of essential workers and other New Yorkers during this crisis, we appreciate the work and partnership of the MTA Police Department and the New York City Police Department in policing the subway system. and investigate these isolated incidents, when they occur. “
Two other people were injured in other subway robberies this week, both pushed onto the train tracks in Manhattan.
